What's this site for?
Welcome to "Held in Common"! What's this site for?
It's a web place set up by Andrew Facey, Vicar of Christ Church, Epsom Common, for the members of that church community, and for anyone else who wants to be involved.
It's a place where we can talk theology (simply, "God-talk" - you don't have to be an 'expert' or have a degree in it!) and where we can relate Christian faith to everyday life.
How does it work? Every so often a new blog will appear on the site. Anyone can read it. Anyone can comment on it. We hope that the posts will get some good discussions going! If you do decide to comment, you can use a nick-name if you like, and your contact details will be available only to Andrew, and not on the site itself.
How do you know when a new blog has been posted? Put your email address in the "Subscribe by email" box to the right, and you'll be informed whenever a new post or comment is published!
Why a special site for this? Andrew was pleased that some church people were finding their way to another site he has, but found there was a growing risk that that general site was becoming a bit church-orientated. Hence this new, church-community-focused page!
What else can you do here?
You could use the email link (top left) to email in a suggested topic for a blog post. We'd then consider writing one or getting someone else to post to the site as a guest.
There are books suggested for reading. There are Christ Church photos to look at, by clicking the Flickr badge in the right column (only photos authorised by subjects for publication will be used).
Or you can pick a past post to look at by clicking a theme that interests you in the category cloud, also on the right column.
There must be other exciting uses we haven't thought of yet. Please do email in to suggest how you'd like this site to look!
We've 'seeded' the site with a few posts, plus comments, from Andrew's other page. Get to them by clicking "Recent Posts" or "Recent Comments" on the left hand side.
Have a look round and enjoy the site. And please feel free to join in!
